인간과 손: 엑스포 67 한국관의 흔적
한국관은 1967년 몬트리올 엑스포 67가 끝난 뒤 대부분의 국가관이 철거된 것과 다르게 현재까지 실물이 남아 있으며, 현재 복원을 앞두고 있습니다. 이번 전시는 엑스포 67 한국관 관련 기록 자료와 이를 둘러싼 사람들의 이야기를 통해 한국의 정체성이 세계 무대에서 발현된 순간을 재구성하며 미래를 위한 새로운 상상을 펼쳐나가고자 합니다.
Man and His Hand: Traces of the Expo 67 Korean Pavilion
Unlike most national pavilions that were dismantled after Expo 67 ended in Montreal in 1967, the Korean pavilion remains intact to this day and is currently scheduled for restoration. Various archival materials and stories related to the Korean Pavilion at Expo 67 are explored to reconstruct the moment when Korea’s identity was expressed on the world stage and to reimagine the past to construct a new future.
2023년 10월, KAA는 몬트리올 리서치 트립을 통해 엑스포 67 자료를 소장한 여러 기관의 한국관 관련 기록물을 살펴보고, 현재 한국관의 모습을 사진, 영상과 3D 스캐닝으로 기록하였습니다. 또한, 1966~7년 김수근 건축연구소 설계팀(한국)과 현재 한국관의 운영, 관리를 맡고 있는 장드라포 공원 사무국(캐나다) 등 다양한 관계자들과의 대화를 통해 한국관의 의미와 가치를 짚어 보았습니다.
In October 2023, KAA conducted a research trip to Montreal to examine archival materials related to the Korea Pavilion held by several institutions that preserve Expo 67 records. During the trip, the team documented the current condition of the pavilion through photography, video, and 3D scanning.
KAA also engaged in conversations with various stakeholders—including the design team of Kim Swoo-geun’s Architectural Research Institute (Korea, 1966–67) and the management office of Parc Jean-Drapeau (Canada), which currently oversees the pavilion—to revisit the significance and value of the Korea Pavilion.
